Mechanisms of Fracture traces the development of the first electroacoustic Aletheia Ensemble through a challenging graduating year, from streaming loops over the internet to feedback loops over MaxMSP.

Stream, a collaboration with Griffith University in Brisbane, is an internet streaming loop that develops interaction, electronic processing and improvisation. The sounds are received and passed on constantly, evolving from sparse blips, vocals and keyboard tones into washes of noise.

WAAPA Music Technology:
Ben Hamblin, Cherie Lebrasse and Kynan Tan – laptops, programming, found objects, vocals and electronics.
Produced by Dr Malcolm Riddoch.

Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University Music Technology:
Andrew McLellan – 16mm Projector Microphone thru Guitar Effect Pedals for Voice and Found Objects.
Codie Childs –  Macbook Pro running Protools using archive audio from 1940s – 1970s, heavily edited and manipulated in realtime.
Matthew James – MIDI Controlled samples and instruments.
Matt Hitchcock – mixing desk – random effects and mobile phone.

Discrete is a re-interpretation of the feedback tape loop pieces of Brian Eno, Robert Fripp and Terry Riley. Here the ensemble improvises on clarinet and piano while processing the sound through two laptops. This creates an ambient wash of recursive melodies and textural accompaniment.

Artists: Cherie Lebrasse, Ben Hamblin, Kynan Tan.
